Crafting Massive Ice Sculptures

Local organizers are carefully creating impressive ice sculptures using a unique technique:

  • Wooden frames have been constructed as the base for the sculptures
  • Water has been sprayed onto these frames since late December
  • The sculptures will feature Mount Fuji and other local mountain landscapes
  • A special sculpture of a snake (representing the Chinese zodiac year) is also being prepared

Perfect Conditions for Ice Art

The festival requires specific weather conditions to create these massive ice sculptures:

  • Ideal temperatures must be below -5°C (23°F)
  • This year’s cold winter forecast is promising for sculpture creation
  • Watanabe Yasuji, the Tourism Association President, is optimistic about the ice formation process
